

That person will go on to compete for the title of National Teacher of the Year. A panel of educators then will select the statewide Teacher of the Year based on written applications, video submissions and interviews with the top six finalists, to be announced in October. The County Teachers of the Year will network with educators throughout the state and serve as ambassadors for New Jersey’s public schools. In Passaic County, the state selected Patrick Slater, a technology teacher at Wayne Valley High School who teaches computer assisted design and robotics. According to the school website, Jerome has served as adviser to the Asian Culture Club and National History Day. She is also the adviser to One Spirit, a community service club that travels to the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota to work with American Indian students. In Bergen County, they include Leah Jerome, a social studies teacher at Pascack Valley Regional High School.
